Program Overview

Storytelling plays an important role in expressing individual culture, lived experience, and personal identity. Sharing stories helps build connections, foster understanding across differences, and strengthen a community’s capacity for meaningful dialogue.

The Human Library Program: People Have Stories is a community-based initiative delivered through a partnership between the Innisfail Public Library and the Innisfail Welcoming and Inclusive Community Committee (IWICC). The program aligns with the Town of Innisfail’s priority of promoting inclusive community conversations and creating welcoming spaces for all residents.

Each Human Library session invites community members to gather in a facilitated, respectful environment where one individual is featured as a “human book,” sharing a personal life story. Participants are then encouraged to engage in small-group or partner discussions, emphasizing active participation rather than a traditional lecture format.

January Session

The January session will feature Lidia Li, who is participating as an invited community storyteller, representing the Central Alberta Chinese Cultural Centre (CACCC).

CACCC is honored to participate as an invited community organization, contributing perspectives rooted in cross-cultural experience, migration, community service, and storytelling as a bridge for understanding. This participation reflects CACCC’s ongoing commitment to promoting inclusion, dialogue, and mutual respect across cultures in Central Alberta.

What to Expect

  • A 15–20 minute personal story shared by the featured guest
  • Facilitated questions and dialogue
  • Small-group story sharing among participants
  • A welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment

The program is free of charge and open to community members of all ages and backgrounds. Coffee will be provided by the Innisfail Public Library.

(Human Library: People Have Stories)
