Employment & Job Search Resources |

Intro |

Looking for work is rarely just about finding a job posting. It can mean rewriting a résumé for the Canadian format, understanding what an employer expects in an interview, getting a credential recognized, picking up a safety ticket, or simply having someone in your corner who knows the local labour market.

Central Alberta has a number of organizations that help with exactly this — and their services are generally free, because they are funded by provincial and federal government programs rather than by the people who use them. This page brings together local employment services so individuals and families can see what exists nearby and find the fit that suits their situation.

Before You Reach Out | 联系前的准备

A few things that make the first appointment go more smoothly:

  • Most services are free, but most also have eligibility rules. Some require you to live in Red Deer, some are for people facing specific barriers to employment, and some are limited to certain immigration or income statuses. Ask on the first phone call — it saves a trip.
  • Most programs start with an intake appointment, not a walk-in. Call ahead to book.
  • Bring your documents. A current résumé (even a rough one), your SIN, work permit or PR card if applicable, and any certificates, diplomas, or transcripts from your home country.
  • You can use more than one. These organizations are not in competition. Many people work with one agency for coaching and another for training.
  • Language support may be available. If English is a barrier, say so when you call and ask what interpretation or language support they offer.

Alberta Supports

The provincial government’s single access point for employment supports, training funding, financial assistance, and referrals to community services. The province also runs alis.alberta.ca, a free career and job-search site with occupational profiles, wage data, and résumé guidance.

CARE for Newcomers – Employment Support

Please note: CARE for Newcomers does not directly place newcomers into jobs. Their employment work focuses on building professional relationships and employer readiness across Central Alberta:

  • Mentorship Program — pairs a newcomer with an experienced professional for ongoing guidance on Canadian workplace culture, professional expectations, and career pathways.
  • Connector Program — a 30-minute conversation with a local business professional or community leader who can make introductions and share insight into local industries. A practical way to build a professional network from scratch.
  • Workplace Know-How — a resource hub helping Central Alberta employers hire, integrate, and retain newcomer talent. Currently in development.
