《无所住》|放下、觉察、归于当下的智慧之路 《Abiding Nowhere》|The Wise Path of Letting Go, Awareness, and Returning to the Present
Last week, I watched a documentary and would like to share my thoughts.

Beyond the Zen of language, towards inner tranquility
This is a documentary without dialogue or plot—just a monk in a red robe, walking barefoot among the woods, by the lake, and through urban structures. He walks slowly, focused on each step beneath him. He is undisturbed by the clamor of the outside world, nor does he lose his rhythm due to changes in his environment. The gaze of others, which is so crucial to most people, seems to have never existed in his world. He simply walks, walk authentically. This pure act of “walking” brings tranquility that stems from inner resolve, complete trust in the present moment, and the freedom that is not swayed by judgment.

Awareness Practice: Seeing One’s Own Heart
His steps were slow to the point of near stillness, leaving people in the comments feeling confused, bored, and drowsy. However, it was precisely in this unease that I was able to see myself—why are we so impatient? Why are we anxious? Why do we always need to do something to fill the time? By letting go of these questions and merely observing my reactions, without judgment or trying to change them, I was practicing awareness. I felt as though he was gently guiding me forward, step by step, into my inner world, allowing me to see my own heart.

Not being pulled, nor intentionally letting go
Some say that a monk’s walking symbolizes the relinquishment of attachment, while others argue that it is, in itself, another form of attachment. My understanding is that true letting go does not oppose the world, but transcends dualistic contrasts—neither deliberately severing ties with the world nor flowing with the tide. What is exhibited is not resistance to the world, but rather a way to find a peaceful existence within it. This state of being unaffected is neither indifference nor detachment, but a true form of freedom—no matter where one is, one can remain present in the moment.

The Depth of Existence: When Life Returns to Its Most Essential Rhythm
In this documentary, I hear the roar of airplanes and the chirping of birds; I hear the chatter of crowds and the soft sound of the wind brushing across the lake’s surface. Every sound is clear, yet they are no longer distractions to the mind but rather the natural sounds that flow through the world. When my consciousness is no longer drawn to a single thing but instead perceives all of this as it is, I truly enter the present moment.
Many people are searching for the meaning of life, but perhaps the true meaning lies not in finding something, but in living clearly and authentically in each moment. In the rhythm of his walk, I feel the support that the earth gives to the body and mind, I feel the rhythm of the flow of all things, and I sense that when life returns to its most essential pace, the world will naturally reveal its truest face.

The Diamond Sutra says, “One should dwell nowhere and give rise to the mind.” This is not a passive release, but a deeper kind of letting go: not clinging to possession, nor rejecting abandonment; not pursuing meaning, nor fearing emptiness.
When the film ended, I had already walked through a journey in my heart. I may not be able to walk in the same way as he does, but I can regain such focus in life, find inner stability, and experience a freedom unpulled by external forces.
One day, we will understand that no matter where we go, we are always on the path. And the path itself neither dwells anywhere nor is it absent anywhere.
